January is not a Race!
January often arrives with noise.
Plans.
Pressure.
Declarations.
Urgency.
Everyone seems to be running, running toward goals, toward clarity, toward a version of themselves they hope will finally be “enough.”
But Scripture offers us a quieter invitation.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10)
This verse is not a suggestion for calm aesthetics. It is a command to stop striving.
In its original sense, “be still” means to let go, to cease, to loosen your grip.
God is not asking you to slow down so you can run better.
He is asking you to stop grasping for control so you can remember who He is.
January is not a race because God is not measuring you by speed.
He does not reward urgency.
He does not bless exhaustion.
He does not confuse momentum with obedience.
Another scripture reminds us:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.”
(Isaiah 30:15)
Strength, biblically, is not loud.
It is not frantic.
It is not fueled by fear of falling behind.
Strength is found in quiet trust.
If your body feels resistant to “new year energy,” that does not mean you lack discipline.
It may mean your soul remembers seasons where pressure masqueraded as purpose.
God is not offended by your pace. He is present in it.
This month, you are allowed to begin gently.
To listen longer.
To move slower.
To breathe deeper.
January is not a race.
It is a return.
And God is already here, He is waiting without hurry, but with Purpose.
